Cuba Support Group statement on Fidel Castro's retirement
Cuba Support Group has learnt of the decision of the Cuban President, Fidel Castro, not to allow his name to go forward for election as Head of State and Commander-in-Chief in next Sunday’s parliamentary vote.
His decision completes his active political career with the luxury of a retirement, a luxury that 10 US Presidents and the most powerful military empire in human history failed to deny to him.
He leaves office with undying love of the Cuban people in his heart and the thanks and respect of his global supporters who recognise his unsurpassed revolutionary discipline and outstanding political leadership.
We wish him well in his retirement and look forward to his continuing moral and intellectual guidance on important world events and the many global challenges facing humanity.
We call on the Unites States to now publicly declare that THE WAR IS OVER and that they will verifiably decommission their military, economic, diplomatic aggression against Cuba and normalise relations.
“That a man should have no enemies is a sign that he has no talent to outshine others, nor character that inspires, nor valor that is feared, nor honor to be rumored, nor goods to be coveted, nor anything to be envied.”
- Jose Marti, Cuban Poet and Revolutionary.
Viva Fidel!
